Musical Comedy “First Date” To Launch National Tour in Fall 2020

The production of First Date will launch a national tour in fall 2020, and will be led by real-life couple Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo.

First Date is written by Austin Winsberg and has a score by Michael Weiner. The touring production will be directed by Matt DiCarlo.

Young and DeGarmo met on Broadway while working on Hair in 2010.  Both were also contestants on American Idol, and both have starred in additional Broadway productions in New York and on the road.

When blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?

The original production premiered in Seattle in 2012, and then transferred to Broadway’s Longacre Theare in 2013 where it played for nearly half a year. Zachary Levi, best known for his work in TV’s Chuck, made his Broadway debut with the show. Co-star Krysta Rodriguez (TV’s Smash) had previously appeared in The Addams Family, Spring Awakening, In the Heights, and more.
