Principal Cast Announced for ‘The Sound of Music’ National Tour

Concord Theatricals and NETworks Presentations has announced principal casting for the highly anticipated North American tour of The Sound of Music.

Tony Award nominee Christiane Noll as the Mother Abbess will join rising star Cayleigh Capaldi as Maria Rainer and Broadway veteran Kevin Earley as Captain Georg von Trapp. Nicholas Rodriguez will play the charismatic impresario Max Detweiler, and Kate Loprest brings elegance and ambition to Elsa Schraeder. Ariana Ferch portrays Liesl von Trapp, the eldest daughter full of spirit and first love, and Ian Coursey plays Rolf Gruber, a boy striving to prove himself in uncertain times. Complete casting will be announced at a later date.

CAYLEIGH CAPALDI (Maria Rainer) is honored to make her National Tour debut bringing this iconic and vital story to life. Off-Broadway & West End: Titanique (Rose, Céline Dion). West End: Figaro (Sienna). Regional: Frozen (Elsa, US regional premiere), Putting it Together (The Younger Woman), Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins), Into the Woods (Cinderella), and Little Women (Jo March). KEVIN EARLEY (Georg von Trapp). Recently seen in Broadway’s Old Friends (with Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga), Kevin is thrilled to be on the National tour of The Sound of Music, the show that began his acting career as Kurt at age eleven. Other Broadway credits include Les MisérablesThoroughly Modern Millie and A Tale of Two Cities. Kevin secured a NY Drama Desk nomination for the title role in Death Takes a Holiday for Roundabout Theater Company. Other awards include: Joseph Jefferson Award, L.A. Drama Critics’ Circle Award, and four L.A. Ovation nominations. NICHOLAS RODRIGUEZ (Max Detweileris a 2024 Grammy nominee. He was recently seen in the Tony Award-winning revival of Company on Broadway opposite Patti LuPone and Katrina Lenk and toured the U.S. as Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music directed by Jack O’Brien. Nicholas made his Broadway debut in Disney’s production of Tarzan.  Off-Broadway he starred in The Toxic Avenger: The Musical, Almost Heaven: Songs of John Denver, Death for Five Voices.  Nicholas is currently touring the country in the multi-media symphonic tour: The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE-Day, including performances at Carnegie Hall, The Boston Pops and the White House. He starred opposite Kathleen Turner in Mother Courage and Her Children at  Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where he also played  Billy Bigelow in Carousel (Helen Hayes Nomination), Sebastian in the World Premier of Destiny of Desire, Freddy in My Fair Lady (Helen Hayes nomination), Fabrizio in Light in the Piazza and was also seen as Curly in Oklahoma! for which he received a 2011 Helen Hayes Award for “Best Actor in a Musical” and was named “Top 10 Performers of 2010” by Hilton Als of The New Yorker.
