The Kennedy Center Announces the 2022-2023 Theater Season

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, DC) has announced its 2022–2023 Theater Season.

“It is a joy to be back at the Center this season with so many patrons excited about live theater,” said Jeffrey Finn, Vice President and Executive Producer of Theater. “The past two years have made us realize how crucial the performing arts are to our lives, and I am delighted to announce a theater season that runs the gamut from Kennedy Center produced productions to new Broadway blockbusters, insightful plays, and iconic shows.”

Broadway hits fly back into the Kennedy Center this fall when the Broadway sensation Wicked takes over the Opera House, December 8, 2022–January 22, 2023. Also in December, the lauded Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®–winning drama A Soldier’s Play takes residence in the  Eisenhower Theater, December 13, 2022–January 8, 2023, starring Tony Award® nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess, the Kennedy Center’s The Music Man). 

In the spring, for three weeks only, April 11–29, Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of  Boublil & Schönberg’s Les Misérables makes its triumphant homecoming to the Kennedy Center Opera House where the Tony Award®–winning musical phenomenon originally made its pre-Broadway American debut in 1986. 

Disney’s landmark Tony Award®–winning musical event, The Lion King, makes a highly anticipated return to the Kennedy Center, June 21–July 29, 2023 in the Opera House. Then, just in  time for Independence Day, American Repertory Theater, Roundabout Theatre Company, and director Diane Paulus’ exciting new Broadway production of the Tony Award®–winning musical 1776 reexamines a pivotal moment in American history with a cast that reflects multiple  representations of race, gender, and ethnicity, June 17–July 16, 2023 in the Eisenhower Theater. 

From July 18 – August 13, 2023, the smash hit comedy and international phenomenon, The Play That Goes Wrong, comes to the Eisenhower Theater. The season concludes with the  electrifying new musical extravaganza and winner of 10 2020 Tony Awards®, including Best  Musical, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, making its Washington, D.C. premiere in the Opera  House, August 2–September 24, 2023.
