Moulin Rouge! The Musical North American Tour Announces New Launch Site and Dates

The producers of Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Broadway In Chicago announced today that the North American tour will run technical rehearsals and premiere at Broadway In Chicago’s James M. Nederlander Theatre with performances beginning February 26, 2022 through April 24, 2022 and an official opening night on March 11, 2022.

Previously, the tour has been scheduled to launch from the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, LA. Currently, the tour has announced 2021/2022 season rebooked stops in San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA. Other postponed stops in Denver, CO; Cleveland, OH; and others, intend to reschedule the show for a future date.

The Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical is nominated for 14 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Earlier this year, the production won the 2020 Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical and received ten Outer Critics Circle Award Honors including New Broadway Musical.

The high begins the instant you walk into the theatre,” says Johnny Oleksinski of the NY Post. And Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly concludes that “it’s easy to believe that Moulin Rouge! The Musical could run for 50 years.”

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers with a book by Tony Award winner John Logan, choreography by Sonya Tayeh and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine.

The design team for Moulin Rouge! The Musical includes Tony Award winner Derek McLane (sets), Tony Award winner Catherine Zuber (costumes), two-time Tony Award nominee Justin Townsend (lighting), Tony Award nominee Peter Hylenski (sound), Drama Desk Award winner David Brian Brown (wig and hair design), Sarah Cimino (Make-up design) and Matt Stine (Music Producer). Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Stephen Kopel.

Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film comes to life onstage, remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a theatrical celebration of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and – above all – Love. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is more than a musical; it is a state of mind.

As in the film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical celebrates some of the greatest popular music of the last 160 years. The stage musical features many of the iconic songs from the movie and also includes recent hits released since the movie premiered 19 years ago.

The Grammy-nominated Moulin Rouge! The Musical Original Broadway Cast Recording, produced by Baz Luhrmann, Justin Levine, Matt Stine & Alex Timbers, is now available by Baz Luhrmann’s label, House of Iona, and RCA Records. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Cast Album chart.
