The musical adaptation of the 1982 comedy will launch the tour in Fall 2020 at Shea’s Buffalo Theater in New York.

Additional companies will also begin in London’s West End in 2021, in Japan, and an Australian engagement will open in partnership with Benjamin Lowy Productions and subsequently play New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Casting and additional stops for the North American tour will be announced at a later date.

Tootsie tells of Michael Dorsey, an out-of-work actor willing to do anything for a job — even if it means playing way against type. When he disguises himself as an outspoken actress named Dorothy Michaels, he defies all odds to become a Broadway sensation. But as audiences fall for Dorothy and Michael starts to fall for the woman of his dreams, he’s learning that the hardest part of show business isn’t getting to the top… it’s keeping up the act.

The productions garnered 11 Tony Award nominations, including Best Score (David Yazbek), Best Book (Robert Horn), Best Choreography (Denis Jones), Best Direction (Scott Ellis) and Best Musical. It is currently playing at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre, and stars Tony nominee Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey, Tony nominee Lilli Cooper as Julie Nichols, Tony nominee Sarah Stiles as Sandy Lester, John Behlmann as Max Van Horn, Tony nominee Andy Grotelueschen as Jeff Slater, Julie Halston as Rita Marshall, Tony winner Michael McGrath as Stan Fields and Tony Award nominee Reg Rogers as Ron Carlisle.
