2019-2020 Show-by-Show Projections (Part 1)

Continuing the theme from my previous post, I thought I would take a stab at making a few touring stop projections for the 2019-2020 season. The majority of these projections will be based on current information and shouldn’t be accepted as fact. This post will focus on a few of the shows that are currently on tour.

Aladdin

Much like The Lion King, Aladdin is proving to be an anchor show for many venues’ seasons. This means it has a long-term engagement (2+ weeks). Because of the lengthy stays, the show will play in fewer destinations. (It is playing in 20 cities this season.)  So, based on data from previous seasons, here are a few cities where I project the show will play during the 19-20 season:

Anastasia

Although no official number of stops was made public when the tour was announced, expect this show to continue working through the major markets. Ending the 18-19 season in San Francisco, I expect it to start out west and then merge back east in a few of the following locations:

Come From Away

After fulfilling nearly half of its initial 60+ tour stops in 2018-2019, Come From Away is projected to continue to hit more of the major markets including:

Dear Evan Hansen

As previously announced, Dear Evan Hansen is set to continue its initial 50+ city obligation for the 2019-2020 season. A few cities have already announced that the show is coming during the season including: Portland (OR), Dallas, and Salt Lake City. Beyond those, the show is projected to stop at the following cities:

Hamilton

Many of Hamilton‘s locations for the 2019-2020 season are currently known as many venues made the announcement alongside their 2018-2019 season reveals. As the show enters its third season on tour, it’s possible that more venues will start to see it make a return visit. For example, the theatres in Atlanta and St. Louis announced that the show is returning to their cities. Additionally, the show is set to have a sit-down production in San Francisco starting in February 2019. See the All Shows page for the list of minimum locations where the show is heading for the upcoming season.

Miss Saigon

Whether it was a mistake or not, the PPAC’s online press release of Miss Saigon‘s tour announcement revealed a large portion of tour stops for the show. (Note that the release has since been deleted.) After the remaining 2018-2019 seasons were revealed, it was a matter of deduction to figure out which venues will host the show during the 2019-2020 season. Although there may be some fluidity associated with how many venues actually go through with housing the production, I am of the opinion that the vast majority listed in the release will have the show in their upcoming seasons. You can see the entire list here: Miss Saigon 19-20 Cities

The Band’s Visit

A late-season addition to the touring circuit in 2018-2019, the possibilities are endless for where this show could play next season. What is currently known is that the show will play in Chicago (10-22 September 2019) and San Francisco (Spring 2020). It’s most likely that the show will have more long-term engagements in the major markets mixed with single-week stops. With that in mind, here are a few of my projected locations:

So there are a few projections for some of the shows that are debuting during the current season. Be on the look out for my next post where I’ll attempt to project the stops of the new shows entering the touring world in 2019-2020.
